Mumbai Mirror article on e-Jamaat cards

Last week, a report was published by Mumbai mirror (an Indian newspaper) on E-Jamaat cards.

Titled under the heading "Keeping track of community", the news report states that though Indian govt has decided to have Unique Identity cards for each citizen, the Dawoodi bohra community is already having such a card for various purposes.

It also explains how the Bohra's use this card. "The cards are used as entry passes to their mosques, mausoleums and functions. It is also used to get permissions and clearances for pilgrimages to Shia holy places in India and abroad and to access online information on community services. Since every Bohra family has to pay religious levies to local religious officers called Amil, the card also monitors collection of these taxes. Since the card system registers every birth and death in the community, it is an effective system to count their worldwide strength."
